A PPE survey replaced habit-and-price buying with hazard-to-role specification — lifting day-to-day compliance and cutting redundant SKUs.
The situation
Protective equipment was issued, not specified. Gloves and respirators were chosen by habit and unit price rather than the actual exposure of each task, so workers removed ill-fitting masks and gloves mid-job — and audits kept flagging the same hand- and respiratory-protection gaps.
What ASE did
ASE ran a PPE Survey & Optimization: hazard-to-role mapping for every task, respirator fit testing, and side-by-side comfort trials. Chemical-resistant gloves and half-mask respirators were matched to the real chemical exposure, and the SKU list was rationalised so each role had one correct, comfortable option — reinforced with short care-and-use briefings.
